NCHA Tournament Results

The Cal Lutheran Knights departed on 17 March for the NCHA National Tournament in Newark, Ohio.  With three guaranteed games, and a potential five games, the Knights were primed for action.  On Friday, the Knights took on Penn State Altoona Nittany Lions.  The Knights battled in a back and forth game before succumbing in the third period in a 7-6 effort.  Later that day, the Knights took on the Union Dutchmen.

About halfway through the second period, the CLU Knights goaltender, Grant Yurosko collided with a Dutchmen in the goal crease, knocking Grant out of the game.  With no backup goaltender available, the NCHA commissioner Mike Smietana allowed the assistant CLU Knights Coach, Antonio Foreman, to don the goal tender equipment and finish the match.  The Knights fell in a losing effort, 12-2.  The following day, the Knights faced the Saint Vincent Bearcats with Jeff Roberts in net.  Jeff had not donned the goal tender equipment for 10 years, but fought bravely and at the end of the second period had stopped 15 of 17 shots and the teams went into the 2nd intermission tied 2-2.  The Bearcats came out in the third period on a tear, and won 7-3 effectively ending the Knights 2016 season.

The 2015-2016 CLU Knights Hockey season was one of success. Each member of the team agreed that the cohesion that was generated throughout the year, the growth in each individual player, and the appreciation for the game of hockey made every moment of practice, every win, and every loss, worth it.

Your CLU Knights depart for the National Collegiate Hockey Association national tournament this Thursday. After losing to UCSB in the California Collegiate Hockey League (CCHL) tournament, the CLU Knights were able to get an invitation to attend the national tournament when the Chapman Panthers defeated UCSB for the CCHL trophy.  The Knights will take on the Pennsylvania State University Lions on March 18th at 3:30 Eastern.

After a tightly contested regulation game, the CLU Knights and the UCSB Gauchos went into overtime tied at 7-7.  UCSB caught a break when they tied the puck up behind the net, then threw a desperation shot at the net which bounced off the back of the goal tender and dribbled in, potentially ending the CLU Knights 2015-2016 season.  However, the following night, the Chapman Panthers defeated the UCSB Gauchos in the CCHL title game for the California Cup.  With the UCSB loss to Chapman, the CLU knights received the bid to attend the NCHA National Tournament in Newark, Ohio, March 18-21.  CLU will be the number 3 seed going into the tournament.

Cal Lutheran Knights head to Goleta, CA, this weekend for the 2016 California Collegiate Hockey League tournament. Knights will take on Cal State- Northridge on Friday, Oct. 9 at 9:45 PM in the Battle of Iceoplex. Last year, CSUN and CLU split the season series one game apiece. A lot will be on the line as this is the only meeting this season between the two programs who call Iceoplex- Simi Valley home.

Knights start off 2015 in dominating fashion winning 16-0 against Ventura College. CLU had eight goal scorers and thirteen players with at least one point. Grant Yurosko earned the shutout (21 saves) in his first game with the club.
